Swirl translates the twisting forms found in nature into an everyday coat stand. Four hickory stems wind around a shared axis, then open outward to form the hooks and feet. The gesture gives the stand a sense of growth, with structure and function emerging from the same continuous movement.
FORM
Four lines, one gesture
The four elements gather into a slender central twist and separate at either end. The open crown holds garments, while the spreading feet extend the same gesture toward the floor.

MOTION STUDY
From parallel to intertwined
A short form study visualizes four separate elements gathering into the spiral. It explores the rhythm of the twist and the way the stand opens at its ends.

MATERIAL & USE
A natural gesture in the room
The proposed material is steam-bent hickory. Construction studies explore forming the four elements around a shared axis, with two dowel connections as a possible joining approach. The forming sequence and joint positions remain in development.
An everyday object with a sculptural presence, with or without a garment.
